The Albion Charter: Preface
Welcome to The Albion Charter, the opening chapter of Tales of Albion.
This is more than an introduction. It is a manifesto for a different way of reading Britain's past.
Modern history often strips away the strange, the supernatural, and the legendary, leaving behind a version of the past that is neat, rational, and incomplete. But for thousands of years, the people of Britain and Ireland understood their history differently. Giants walked the hills. Dragons haunted the mountains. Ghosts wandered ancient roads. Witches, monsters, heroes, enchanted kingdoms, and mysterious peoples were woven into the story of these islands.
In this episode, we introduce Albionic History: a new approach to British historiography that takes myths, legends, folklore, medieval chronicles, and ancient traditions seriously as part of the historical narrative. Rather than dismissing every extraordinary story as mere fiction, we ask what these traditions might preserve, where they came from, and why they endured for centuries.
Not every tale deserves equal weight. Some legends are clearly later inventions, literary embellishments, or imaginative fables. Others may preserve echoes of forgotten peoples, real places, ancient beliefs, or genuine historical memories. Our task is to sift the traditions carefully, neither believing everything nor rejecting everything, but allowing Britain's oldest stories to speak for themselves.
This is a history with all the strange parts left in.
